Safety in Alignment ONLINE: Creating Safe Yoga through language and touch with Dr. Lisa McQuade, EdD
This workshop will spotlight the yoga teacher’s ability to guide class experiences that help to cultivate inner wisdom and self-trust, rather than command performances. We will explore the potential for yoga to nurture body and soul, as well as to cause harm if one ignores the body’s messages. Basic anatomy will explore strengths and weaknesses and address ways to modify postures based on multi-level, multi-body-type class participation. Emphasis will be on guiding individuals into their best alignment using language, mirroring, and gentle self-touch. We’ll spend time assessing alignment and practicing assists that offer mindful awareness to both the facilitator and the participant. Verbal and body language will be explored as gateways to opening to receive experience. We’ll break apart the shapes of asana and explore their different dimensions and energetic effects! It will be a movement blast!

7:00-8:00 pm Evening Yoga (Sadhana) to unfurl the week (1 hour)
SATURDAY MORNING
8:00- 9:30 am- Morning Yoga (Sadhana) (1.5 hours)

Research- Issues of safety and movement
Review Safe Yoga methodology focusing on Discovery and Kripalu Yoga roots

SATURDAY AFTERNOON
2:00-6:00 p.m. (4 hours)
Verbiage for alignment and movement
Mirroring alignment
Press Points- review and how to use them.
Drawing attention to potential injuries that might create challenges within a pose.
Practice alignment, assist, and language by looking at poses and playing with alignment language and assists.
4:00-6:00 pm- THIS is MOVEMENT
Relaxation...a healing point!
HOMEWORK-
Each participant will be given one pose to create a 15-minute sequence that will be led on Sunday.
This will also be recorded so that you can review it for yourself.
Feedback will be given by using our kind Kripalu methodology.
Time may be limited due to the number of participants. In that case, you will record and submit this to the instructor, who will review it and give feedback.
This is a requirement for getting your certificate.
SUNDAY MORNING
8:00-9:30 am (1.5- hours): Sadhana- gentle warmups, layering with kindness
10:00 am-12:00 pm (2.5 hours)
Practice teaching layering poses in groups.
The Pose will be given, and a minimum of 3 layers will be created for each.
This will be done on the spot in small groups.
Depending on the number of participants, this will be done in breakout rooms.
12:10-2:00-LUNCH
SUNDAY AFTERNOON
2:00- 3:30 pm (2.5 hours)
Practice Teach in groups. (using your assigned homework posture)
3:30-4:30 pm ( 1 hour)
Rest and Digest- Yoga Nidra followed by sharing what we’ve learned about ourselves as yoga students and teachers.
How can we use the tools we’ve learned to better our own practice and assist others?
5:30-6:00 pm Closing- certificates may be mailed
